History of Neist Point Lighthouse

A Scottish lighthouse erected in 1909

Neist Point Lighthouse was built by Scottish civil engineer David Alan Stevenson. Built in 1909 on the westernmost tip of the Isle of Skye, the lighthouse is easily recognizable by its white facade, its 19-meter high round tower and its black lantern.

Nowadays, the lighthouse has been fully automated and is one of the protected historical sites of Scotland. It is one of the exceptional places, which attract thousands of visitors every year!

Unfortunately, the lighthouse is closed to the public… But nothing prevents you from approaching the place to admire its setting, its architecture and its organization. To reach the place, nothing could be easier: you can park your car and take a marked path of about 900 meters.

Thus, you will discover a lighthouse all in majesty, located at the end of the peninsula. The whole contrasts magnificently, between the green expanses, and the deep blue of the ocean.

Whatever the weather, the building has a deep and romantic charm. All the more so with its important marine fauna. We no longer count the dolphins, whales and basking sharks populating the surrounding waters! Don’t hesitate to settle down in the grass and admire the show: you might just see one of these magnificent marine creatures!

In addition to the lighthouse, you will notice that the place has keepers’ houses (formerly available for rent to spend an unforgettable night) and annex buildings. The whole is surrounded by low walls.
